Saturday Night Live star Pete Davidson might have crossed a line last week. It’s not out of character for him. But after mocking Representative-elect Dan Crenshaw, he’s apologizing.

On last night’s episode, Davidson said, “in what I’m sure was a huge shock to people who know me, I made a poor choice last week.” He added, “On behalf of the show and myself, I apologize. “I mean this from the bottom of my heart, it was a poor choice of words. The man is a war hero and he deserves all the respect in the world.”

On the previous episode, Davidson was shown a picture of Crenshaw, who wears an eyepatch because of an injury after an IED exploded during his third tour in Afghanistan. Davidson said: “You may be surprised to hear he’s a congressional candidate from Texas and not a hitman in a porno movie … I’m sorry, I know he lost his eye in war or whatever.”

This week, after issuing an apology, Davidson found himself next to Crenshaw. Crenshaw was then shown a picture of Davidson, joking that he looked “like if the meth from Breaking Bad was a person” and a “troll doll with a tapeworm.” Crenshaw then got a phone call and refused to pick up, letting his ringtone ‘Breathin” by Ariana Grande, play out. Davidson was briefly engaged to her but the two are now single following a messy separation.

Davidson laughed at the jokes and the two reminded viewers that people from both sides of the aisle can come together and apologize. Then, the Veteran and the son of a firefighter killed in 9/11 reminded the audience to “Never forget” during this Veteran’s Day weekend.

Here’s the sketch.
