Veteran pop star Paula Abdul is preparing for her first tour in over 20 years with fellow veterans of the industry New Kids on the Block and Boyz II Men.
Abdul, 54, joined the groups this past August for her first full set in years as a guest on New Kids on the Block’s 2016 Mixtape Festival. Also present was Boyz II Men, and now the three are kicking off The Total Package Tour, which begins next May in Columbus, Ohio.
The stars announced the comeback tour Tuesday morning on Today. “I think Paula and I bumped into each other at the [2015] AMAs and she started saying she wanted to go on the road again,” said New Kids frontman Donnie Wahlberg. “Boyz II Men, they’re friends.”
“She did our Mixtape Festival with Boyz II Men and us, and it was the biggest festival we’ve done since its inception,” he continued. “We owe a lot of that to those guys, so we decided, ‘Let’s go on the road together.'”
Boyz II Men’s Nathan Morris is excited for the tour as well, and promises “a lot of fun and energy” to their fans. “We’ve got extra firepower,” he said of Abdul joining the party.
Abdul, who spent much of the last two decades judges American Idol alongside Simon Cowel, added, “[It’s] incredible. I’m gonna be envied by so many!” Her last tour wrapped in 1992.
