Carrie Fisher revealed in her new book that she had an affair with co-star Harrison Ford on the original set of Star Wars in 1979.
The on-screen lovers Princess Leia and Han Solo were apparently played by more than just co-stars. “It was Han and Leia during the week,” Carrie Fisher told People. “And Carrie and Harrison during the weekend.” This is a secret Fisher has been holding onto for almost 40 years.
At the time, Fisher was 19 years old and Ford was a 33-year-old married father of two. Fisher tells that the two had an affair for three months during shooting. “It was so intense,” the now 60-year-old actress says. “I was so inexperienced but I trusted something about him. He was kind.”
The two first became romantically involved at a birthday party for the film’s creator and director George Lucas. “I looked over at Harrison,” Fisher recalls in her memoir. “A hero’s face – a few strands of hair fell over his noble, slightly furrowed brow. How could you ask such a shining specimen of a man to be satisfied with the likes of me?”
Fisher’s book, The Princess Diarist, comes out Nov. 22.
