Yoko Ono is infamously known as the woman who broke up The Beatles, but Paul McCartney speaks fondly of her now.
While McCartney, one of two surviving members of The Beatles, admits the band had issues with Ono, he says that “now it’s like we’re mates.” He explains that when the band recorded, it was usually just the Fab Four in the room, but once John Lennon and Ono started dating, she was constantly present. “When John got with Yoko, she wasn’t in the control room or to the side. It was in the middle of the four of us.”
At first, McCartney admits, the band did feel “threatened then” by her disruptive courage — “she was sitting on the amps while we were recording.”
However, after a time, McCartney thought, “if John loves this woman, that’s gotta be right. I realized any resistance was something I had to overcome,” he explained to CNN. “It was a little hard at first” but “gradually, we did.”
And today, McCartney says he likes Ono.
