Patton Oswalt married Meredith Salenger in ceremony just four months after their engagement.
Oswalt and Salenger became engaged a little over a year after the passing of Oswalt’s first wife, author Michelle McNamara, on April 21, 2016. The comedian and actor had to defend his decision to remarry so quickly when angry fans wrote to him on social media. Instead, he decided to repost a blog entitled “A Widow’s Rage Defense Against Patton Oswalt’s Engagement,” written by Erica Roman, who supported Oswalt’s decision to move on.
“Who gave you the position to judge when it’s ‘too soon’ for a person who has suffered the worst to be able to find happiness and companionship again?” Roman wrote. “It’s been 15 months! How long should a widow sit in isolation before YOU are comfortable enough to release them from their solitary confinement?”
“What did you guys do yesterday?” wrote Oswalt in an Instagram post alongside a photo of himself, his daughter, and his bride. Oswalt and McNamara’s 8-year-old daughter Alice served as the flower girl at the wedding.
