Oscars 2018: What Time Do The Oscars Start? Where Can You Watch?

The 90th Academy Awards will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and will air on ABC on Sunday, March 4 at 8 p.m. EST.

WHEN ARE THE OSCARS?

This award season has been one for the record books, with powerful women standing up and making themselves heard. Celebrities wore black attire and Time’s Up pins to the Golden Globes, while new sexual misconduct allegations appear each week against various men in power or in the limelight. The Academy Awards, likewise, are looking to mix things up in terms of the show’s history.

This year, a woman and a black man are up for best director, which is a rare feat. Only four times previously has a women been up for the coveted award, and only once (Kathryn Bigelow for The Hurt Locker in 2010 ) did a woman win. This year, Greta Gerwig hopes to join the list for her film Lady Bird. Likewise, Jordan Peele is just the fifth black man to be nominated for the honor, with his film Get Out. No black woman has ever been nominated in the category.

Some things, however, are not changing for the 2018 Oscars. Kimmel will be hosting for the second consecutive year; the show will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles; ABC will air a red carpet pre-show beginning at 6:30 p.m. EST.

This year’s list of presenters includes such names as Lin-Manuel Miranda, Gal Gadot, Tiffany Haddish, Laura Dern, Kumail Nanjiani, Jennifer Garner, Chadwick Boseman and Gina Rodriguez, among many others. Last year’s winners Mahershala Ali, Viola Davis and Emma Stone will hand out the statues for the major acting categories, as per Academy tradition, but last year’s Best Actor winner Casey Affleck will be absent from the show altogether following his sexual harassment allegations and lawsuits.

The five nominees for Best Original Song will all be performed on the night of, including Mary J. Blige singing “Mighty River” from Mudbound, Common and Andra Day singing “Stand Up for Something” from Marshall, Sufjan Stevens singing “Mystery of Love” from Call Me By Your Name, Keala Settle singing The Greatest Showman‘s “This is Me” and Gael García Bernal, Natalie Lafourcade and Miguel teaming up to sing Coco‘s “Remember Me.”
