Two-time Olympic gold medalist and X Games snowboarder Shaun White, 26, a.k.a. the Flying Tomato, so called for his shock of curly, long red hair, was arrested on Sunday for public intoxication and vandalism after an incident at the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel in the wee hours of the morning, during which White allegedly destroyed a telephone and pulled a fire alarm within the establishments, rousing guests from their sleep and forcing them to evacuate, before trying to flee the scene.

When White attempted to get into a cab, one of the hotel guests reportedly stopped him and told the driver that police were on their way, at which point White allegedly kicked the man and took off on foot, reports the Washington Post. The guest chased after White, and when White stopped and turned around, the two men reportedly ran into each other and White fell down, injuring himself by hitting his head on a fence.

White, who appeared to be intoxicated, was sent to a local hospital for treatment, where he refused to sign two misdemeanor warrants issued by the police. He was then arrested and booked upon his release from the hospital, reports the Tennessean.

Late Monday, White was released on his own recognizance until his scheduled appearance for an October 10 court date. The guest who pursued White did not press assault charges.
