Nick Cannon, who confirmed that he and wife Mariah Carey were heading towards divorce after rumors began to swirl about the couple, is reportedly the one who is spearheading the divorce.

Cannon, 33, is reportedly seeking a divorce from Carey over concerns for her emotional state and a desire to protect his children, according to TMZ. He allegedly believes that their twins – Moroccan and Monroe – are already “showing signs of emotional upset.” In getting the divorce, the America’s Got Talent host hopes he can provide a safe haven for his children away from Carey’s “chaos.”

Cannon reportedly partially blames his wife’s “people” for enabling her and not having her best interests at heart. He believes they are only worried about her earning power and paying their salaries.

Cannon broke his silence on the divorce rumors last week, making a statement to The Insider. “There is trouble in paradise,” Cannon admitted. “We have been living in separate houses for a few months. My main focus is my kids.”

Carey, who was reportedly planning on releasing a joint statement with Cannon about the split, released a brief statement through her reps who declined to comment on her personal life.

“I don’t comment on Mariah’s personal life,” her rep said to Us Weekly. “But Mariah is focusing on her children and her upcoming tour.”
