Nick Cannon filed for divorce from Mariah Carey back in December after six years of marriage to the singer.

Cannon filed for divorce Dec. 12, reported TMZ. Incidentally, the date of the filing came just a little more than a week after Carey missed her rehearsal for the 2014 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting, which was allegedly the result of dealing with the impending divorce proceedings.

On Dec. 3, the day of the tree lighting, Carey was reportedly on the phone with her lawyers trying to hash out the terms of her property settlement in the divorce. The protracted talk reportedly caused her delay.

Speculation about the state of Cannon and Carey’s marriage began last summer. In August, Cannon responded to the rumors, confirming that the two were living apart and had been doing so for the last few months. By October, Cannon was openly talking about the end of the marriage on talk shows.

“It’s truly just staying focused on family and what’s right and getting through these times and just doing what’s right for the kids,” the Drumline actor said on The Meredith Vieira Show, referring to the couple’s twins – Moroccan and Monroe, 3.

“We’ve always been people who are kinda on the go, coming and going, so their life hasn’t changed one bit,” he added. “We spend holidays together, we do everything that we’re supposed to do together.”
