In the wake of actor Ezra Miller’s arrest in Hawaii, execs at Warner Bros. are reportedly going to “pause on any future projects involving Miller,” most likely in reference to their future in the DC Extended Universe as The Flash, and the Fantastic Beasts series as Credence Barebone.
The actor, who uses they/them pronouns, allegedly harassed multiple patrons and the bartender of Margarita Village in the town of Hilo on Hawaii’s big island. It was also later revealed that they were the subject of as many as 10 minor police complaints and that a couple that hosted Miller filed a restraining order against them.
Miller has been portraying the speedy hero since a cameo in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and a major appearance in Justice League and its subsequent director’s cut. A standalone The Flash film has already been shot but faced several delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and is slated for a summer 2023 release. Miller was reportedly difficult on that set and suffered “frequent meltdowns” during shooting.
Miller has been a mainstay in some big Warner Bros. franchises for a while now, but that may change after The Flash and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore are both released. The Secrets Of Dumbledore premiered on April 6, 2022. It’s unclear if any future The Flash projects were coming for Miller, but they had just had a cameo appearance in the recent DC series Peacemaker.
This doesn’t mean that Miller is officially fired as of yet, but knowing this conversation happened means it’s likely they could be asked to step away from these roles in huge, tentpole franchises that you have to be reliable to keep.
