‘The Voice’ Season 13, Episode 8 Recap: Battle Rounds, Part 2

The Voice has reached the battle round, and the teams are getting smaller and smaller.

THE VOICE RECAP

In battle rounds, two singers on each team duke it out in a sing-off. Team Jennifer Hudson is up first, with Davon Fleming taking on Maharasyi. They sing “I’m Your Baby Tonight” by Whitney Houston. The round was destined to go to Fleming from the start. He and Hudson already save a duet of a Houston song and spoke about their shared love for the singer. And Maharasyi has struggled with high notes, so the song selection was clearly chosen in Fleming’s favor. And despite her best effort, Maharasyi went home, and Fleming stays on for another week.

For Team Adam Levine it was Brandon Showell against Hannah Mrozak. They performed “Cold Water” by Major Lazer ft. Justin Bieber. This battle was hard fought on both sides. Showell went in the clear favorite, as his voice, face, and enthusiasm is infectious, but Mrozak came to sing. The battle went back and forth between the singers, each throwing out mind-blowing notes to overtake the other. In the end, it’s Mrozak’s final power note that steals the show, and she ends up the winner. In a surprising moment, no teams move to steal Showell, and he is sent home.

On Team Blake Shelton, it’s Dennis Drummond vs. Mitchell Lee, as they sing “Mr. Jones” by the Counting Crows. Both singers are fairly well matched, with Drummond freewheeling on stage and Lee trying to wow the crowd. In the end, Lee is the more technically sound singer, so he gets the win, but Drummond is snatched up by Team Adam in a steal.

Team Miley Cyrus‘ battle is the least interesting of all, with Chloe Kohanski beating out Illaina Viramontes in a rendition of “I Am Woman” by Helen Reddy.

So after the second round of battles, the team standings are:
