Chris Rock has finally addressed the infamous incident from the 94th Academy Awards, where Will Smith slapped him while he presented the Oscar for best documentary feature.
Rock gave his long-awaited response to Smith’s slap in Netflix’s first live-streamed comedy special, Chris Rock: Selective Outrage. While he made some slapping references earlier in the act – “Anybody who says ‘words hurt’ has never been punched in the face” – the comedian started off by discussing a range of topics such as racism, woke culture, abortion, and Meghan Markle, before moving onto Smith and the on-stage smack.

His public addressing of the incident comes after months of refusing to make any comments to the press or speaking of it on talk shows. “I’m not a victim baby. You will never see me on Oprah or Gayle crying. You will never see it. It’s never going to happen. F—k that shit, I took that shit like Pacquiao,” Rock joked during the live broadcast from Baltimore’s Hippodrome Theatre.
“You all know what happened to me, getting smacked by Suge Smith. Everybody knows. Everybody f—king knows. I got smacked like a year ago… and people are like, ‘Did it hurt?’ It still hurts,” Rock insisted as he roamed around on stage in an all-white outfit.
“Will Smith is significantly bigger than me. We are not the same size. Will Smith does movies with his shirt off. You’ve never seen me do a movie with my shirt off,” Rock exclaimed. “Will Smith played Muhammad Ali in a movie. You think I auditioned for that part?”
“Will Smith practices selective outrage,” Rock said, revealing that even the title of the show was inspired by the slap. “Cause everybody knows what f—k happened. Everybody that really knows, knows that I had nothing to do with that shit. I didn’t have any ‘entanglements’.”
Rock’s wording is a reference to when Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, revealed she had an “entanglement” with August Alsina. Rock went on to specifically mention the affair, “So for people who don’t know what everybody knows, his wife was f—king her son’s friend. Okay?”
He explained that “normally, I would not talk about this sh—t,” but he feels free to do so since Smith and Pinkett decided to discuss it on TV. “I have no idea why two talented people would do something that f—king lowdown.”
“We’ve all been cheated on. Everybody in here been cheated on. None of us have ever been interviewed by the person who cheated on us on television. None of us,” Rock said before adding that “she hurt him way more than he hurt me.”
The Oscar winner has been public about his intent on repairing his relationship with Rock, but the comedian revealed that it was he who tried to reach out to the Oscar winner after the event.
“Everybody in the world called him a bitch. I tried to call the motherf—ker. I tried to call that man and give him my condolences. He didn’t pick up for me,” Rock explained. “Everybody called him a bitch and who does he hit? Me.”
