New images of MMA fighter Cris Lencioni, known as “’Sunshine,” in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) have been released after he suffered from a cardiac arrest while training.
His mother set up a GoFundMe page on June 8, which includes the details of Lencioni’s struggles.
“On June 8th Cris suffered a cardiac arrest,” she wrote. “As you can imagine this was completely unexpected considering he is only 28 and in peak physical condition. Cris is currently in the ICU in his biggest fight yet. We believe in the goodness of God, and we don’t know anyone with more will, strength, and determination than Cris. Cris has already overcome so much in his life, and we have faith in his ability to overcome any obstacle.”
He was training when he suddenly went into cardiac arrest.
Lencioni’s wife, Marca, posted from his Instagram account to raise awareness of his condition. Lencioni and Marca have been married since October 2018 and have been together since they met in college. The two of them have a son together, known as “Little Cris.”
She wrote, “This is Cris’ wife, Marca. On Thursday 6/8 there was an incident while Cris was training, and he experienced a cardiac arrest. The athletes at the gym were great and immediately called 911 and did their best to address his needs until paramedics arrived. We are currently in another state. He has been under the care of excellent doctors with I and much of his family by his side. We are all hopeful for the progress we know he will continue to make.”
Many people in the comments sent their prayers to the family.
Chael Sonnen, who is an MMA fighter, wrote about the GoFundMe page on his Instagram. He captioned the post, “Sunshine got his nickname because he’s always in a bright and cheerful mood. This is a young man who prepared his whole life for a fight and it appears he just found one. Please consider helping the family in this time of need. It will be considered a personal favor. Go to Go Fund Me’s website & search “Cris Lencioni” @crissunshinemma @mrs.lencioni @bellatormma.”
