Legendary Pictures’ Thomas Tull is moving upcoming Kong: Skull Island film from Universal to Warner Bros, according to reports on Thursday. Legendary reportedly wants to create a new King Kong vs. Godzilla movie and are making efforts to keep the popular franchises under the same distributor.
Kong: Skull Island remains on track for a March 10, 2017 release, with a sequel to Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla planned for June 8, 2018. Following the Godzilla sequel, plans are being made to produce a film which will showcase another battle between the two giant monsters.
In the 1962 King Kong vs. Godzilla film the size of both beasts were adjusted to even the odds during their fights. Kong: Skull Island is being directed by The Kings of Summer director Jordan Vogt-Roberts from a script by John Gatins and Max Borenstein.
The film will delve into the mysterious and dangerous home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers go on a tour of the island. Kong: Skull Island is set to star Brie Larson, Tom Hiddleston, Corey Hawkins and Samuel L. Jackson.
The Godzilla sequel, is also being scripted by Borenstein and will feature the return of Edwards as director. It has been teased that fans will see some other famous Kaiju, such as Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah, although none have been confirmed at this time.
