Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office has issued a statement confirming that her husband Paul Pelosi was attacked early Friday morning by someone who broke into their home in San Francisco.

According to her spokesman Drew Hammil, the attacker has already been arrested, and Mr. Pelosi “was taken to the hospital, where he is receiving excellent medical care and is expected to make a full recovery.”

They also confirmed that the Speaker “was not in San Francisco at the time.”

Since the Speaker wasn’t at the residence, it’s likely that Paul would not have had a security detail with him.

Law enforcement sources also said that the male suspect attacked Pelosi with a hammer after accessing the home through a rear entrance, and he is being treated for blunt-force trauma injuries to the head and body. The motivation for the attack is still under investigation by the San Francisco Police, the FBI and the U.S. Capitol Police.

The Pelosi residence in California has been vandalized in the past, and her office was also subject to particular targeting during the Capitol Riots in January 2021.

Paul Pelosi hasn’t been discharged from the hospital it seems, and the family has requested that their privacy be respected as he recovers.
