The Muppets is bringing the Muppets back to television in the fall, and the show released the full, 10-minute trailer for the series that was shown at Comic-Con.
The 10-minute reel was packaged as the video made to pitch the show to ABC, and was premiered at Comic-Con. Despite the producers’ claims that the full video would never be shown ever again, ABC released the full-length video online on Tuesday, July 21.
The mockumentary-style video, clearly inspired by The Office, is an extension of the first Muppets trailer released by the network in May. In the video, Kermit the Frog works tirelessly to track down Miss Piggy to convince her to participate in a Muppets show. And, when he finally finds her on set of a big war movie, he finds that she has moved on from their love affair, and is now dating her co-star, Topher Grace.
The official synopsis for the show is as follows: “Subverting the expectations of reality TV, this mockumentary looks at the day to day lives of the Muppets and the mayhem that ensues as they try to get a new network series up and running. Mixing the Muppets’ signature brand of nonsense with the hilarity of shows like The Comeback and Curb Your Enthusiasm, this series finally answers the question, ‘What happens when the Muppets go home?’”
In anticipation of the Muppets September premiere, the creative forces behind the show held a panel at Comic-Con a few weeks ago, and teased that the show would find the Muppets trying to establish Miss Piggy’s fictional late night talk show.
The Muppets premieres Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 8 p.m. on ABC.
