Actor Morgan Freeman, 75, has always been outspoken about his political beliefs, including his advocacy for the legalization of marijuana.
Freeman, who next stars in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises with Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Liam Neeson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Gary Oldman, Marion Cotillard, Cillian Murphy and Michael Caine, spoke up about the issue in a revealing Newsweek article. "Marijuana!" Freeman exclaimed, "Heavens, oh yeah. It's just the stupidest law possible, given history. You don't stop people from doing what they want to do, so forget about making it unlawful. You're just making criminals out of people who aren't engaged in criminal activity. And we're spending zillions of dollars trying to fight a war we can't win! We could make zillions, just legalize it and tax it like we do liquor. It's stupid."
Freeman also just donated $1 million to President Barack Obama's super PAC (which is still trailing Mitt Romney's by over 60 million dollars), and he has been outspoken about his position on the Tea Party, which he frankly called "a racist thing" on Piers Morgan's show last year. "Their stated policy, publicly stated, is to do whatever it takes to see to it that Obama only serves one term," Freeman said. "What underlines that? Screw the country …. We're going to do whatever we can to get this black man outta here."
