'Modern Family' Films Halloween Episode: Sofia Vergara Channels Princess Fiona: Julie Bowen Is Asylum Nurse

The cast of Modern Family shot scenes for an upcoming Halloween episode on set in California on Thursday.

‘Modern Family’ Halloween

Modern Family, which earned ample praise for its Halloween episode in 2012, looks like it’s hoping to strike again with this year’s output. The Dunphy’s, who are big fans of the holiday, will be decorating their house as a haunted insane asylum and will be donning outfits to match that theme.

Julie Bowen, who plays Dunphy matriarch Claire on the show, was spotted wearing a bloodied nurse outfit and her hair teased up under her cap. All three of the Dunphy children – played by Sarah Hyland, Ariel Winter and Nolan Gould – were dressed up like patients. Phil, played by Ty Burrell, seems to be against the macabre theme and dresses in rainbow pants and a t-shirt emblazed with a smiley face.

Sofia Vergara (Gloria) and Ed O’Neil (Jay) were dressed for the day of shooting as Shrek’s Princess Sofia and Benjamin Franklin, respectively. Rico Rodriguez, who plays their son, Manny, appeared to be costumed as a character from Mad Men.

As of yet, no pictures have emerged of Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Eric Stonestreet or Aubrey Anderson Emmons in costumes as their Modern Family characters.

Modern Family premieres its sixth season on Wednesday, Sept. 24.
