Missing Malaysia Boeing 777: Plane Possibly Taken By 'Pirates,' Headed Towards Andaman Islands

The search for the missing Malaysia Airlines plane continued on Friday, stretching towards the Andaman Islands between the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal, as investigators consider whether or not pirates were behind a possible hijacking of Flight MH370.

Missing Flight 'An Act Of Piracy'

Military radar evidence has given more reason to believe that Flight MH370 fell victim to a plotted hijacking, reported The Washington Post. According to the radar, it looks as though the Boeing 777 was intentionally flown over the Malay peninsula, in the direction of the Andaman Islands. A U.S. official is calling the disappearance “an act of piracy,” reported the Daily Mail.

Though a few dozen of the hundreds of Andaman Islands serve as vacation spots and home to protected indigenous tribes, they are largely uninhabited.

Search Spreads to Andaman Islands

Upon learning that the plane could have been headed to the Andaman Islands, The Malaysian government has asked the Indian government, which controls the islands, to conduct a search of the surrounding waters. The uninhabited islands are also being searched for signs of life with heat-seeking devices, according to officials.

Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370 disappeared en route from Kuala Lumpar to Beijing last Saturday. There were 239 people on board.
