Fans of the iconic film, Legally Blonde will not need to worry whether or not Legally Blonde 3 will live up to the original. Mindy Kaling has assured fans that the film is in good hands.

Kaling offered some details about writing the new movie. “I love the franchise so much,” she told Access Hollywood. “I love Elle Woods as a character and when Reese asked me to write it I was like, ‘Absolutely!’ ”

Kaling said that it was “really fun” to imagine Reese Witherspoon’s Elle Woods at 40 instead of 21.

When asked when fans can expect to see the film, they should be patient because shooting movies in a pandemic has been a challenge. “I don’t know when we’ll be able to shoot movies again but it would be great to, if Reese likes the script, shooting it this year would be awesome,” Kaling revealed.

The original 2001 film, Legally Blonde, featured sorority girl Elle Woods applying for Harvard Law School after getting dumped by her boyfriend Warner (Matt Davis). Elle’s words turns around when she is forced to become serious with law school, with the help of love interest Emmett (Luke Wilson) and nail technician Paulette (Jennifer Coolidge). A sequel followed in 2003 called Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, finding Elle engaged to Emmett in Washington, D.C. fighting animal rights in Congress.

Fans can expect Legally Blonde 3 to feature nods to the original movies, like the “bend and snap.” “Bend and Snap is forever! We definitely have a lot of fan favorites from the original movie,” revealed Kaling.
