Mindy Kaling surprised fans by announcing the birth of her second child, Spencer Kaling, on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Thursday. Kaling had kept her pregnancy with son Spencer a secret until last night.

“I’m telling it for the first time now, it feels so strange,” Kaling says in the above video with Colbert. “But I gave birth to a baby boy on September 3,” she announced. “This is news to a lot of people. It’s true.”

Last year, Kaling told Glamour that she was glad to be a parent, even though she never quite felt like it was the “right time.”

“I always knew I wanted to be a mom, but I would have put it off and put it off,” she said. “I’m happy that it happened when it did. I would have put it off indefinitely. I’ve seen firsthand the heartbreak of women who have waited to get pregnant.”

When Kaling was pregnant with Katherine, she pulled a similar stunt, giving only one hint towards her pregnancy and none towards her child’s father.

The above post was the only one she made featuring her baby bump, despite posting all throughout the pregnancy up until Katherine’s December birth. Meanwhile, she made no posts with Spencer’s baby bump, only hinting towards his existence in the caption of her most recent post.

“Join me as I talk to Stephen about my Amazon essay collection, Nothing Like I Imagined, and drop some big news!” she writes in her caption, with baby Spencer presumably being the big news.

I’m so confused… how did you get away with posting all these pictures during quarantine/last 9 months but don’t look pregnant in any of them 🤨🤔🤔🤔 No seriously I’m so confused,” a commenter writes under her post.

Who else went deep diving the past 9 months!!!???🤰🏻 😱 Like How???what???!! Congratulations I guess for fooling all of us!! 😆👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💙💙💙💙” another writes.

Fans have been responding with shock and congratulations on Twitter as well.
