Miley Cyrus has released a six-song EP as the first of a three-part album. She Is Coming precedes parts two and three, titled She is Here and She is Everything, which are slated for release later this year. The three EPs will come together to form a full album titled She Is Miley Cyrus.
The EP is a return to the road that she paved for herself before her turn to country-pop on 2017’s Younger Now. Cyrus, who was looking to distance herself from the hip-hop community, found that there was really no space for her in the country realm. After that album flopped on the charts, she halted promotion for it a month after its release.

Cyrus focused on The Voice while finding her own voice again. She began booking studio sessions with frequent collaborator Mike-Will-Made-It as well as Mark Ronson, Andrew Wyatt and RZA.
On this six-song EP, emotions range from bold and sexy to introspective and sensual. On “Cattitude,” which features Ru Paul, Cyrus urges you to “turn up your gratitude and turn down your attitude” in a hook that is potent with attitude. The raunchy song is a femme-empowerment anthem in the vein of electro-house, good enough to vogue to.

The EP opens with another female anthem titled “Mother’s Daughter.” It’s a classic Miley Cyrus song that calls on her hip-hop influences and country-rock roots to create something that would have fit well into her Bangerz-era catalog of hits.
The end product, which is far from being revealed, seems to be applying Cyrus’ growth over the past few years to a sound that she became comfortable back in 2013. While she isn’t ready to give up the hit-making formula that took her career to new heights back then, she swapped the cultural appropriation for cultural appreciation, something her peer Ariana Grande did very well on Thank U, Next.
