Vice President Mike Pence is involved in a strange mystery over an aborted trip.
On Tuesday, Pence was scheduled to take a trip to New Hampshire but suddenly abandoned the planned excursion.
According to The New York Times, he had already boarded Air Force Two at Joint Base Andrews in suburban Maryland. Pence’s aides said that there was no national security emergency or personal health issue that prompted the change. The vice president apparently boarded the plane but it never took off.
Pence’s press secretary, Alyssa Farah, went to Twitter to explain what happened, but with little to no information.

“Something came up that required the @VP to remain in Washington, DC. It’s no cause for alarm. He looks forward to rescheduling the trip to New Hampshire very soon,” Farah wrote.
Theories blew up on Twitter that Mr. Pence could have been facing a national security emergency and was pulled back. There was also the speculation that there was a political drama taking place that President Trump had to summon him as his second in command.
An hour after her first tweet, Farah posted on Twitter once again.
“The @VP never left Washington, DC. There was no ‘emergency callback.’ Something came up that required the VP to stay in DC. We’ll reschedule NH shortly,” Ms. Farah tweeted.
Marc Short, Pence’s chief of staff, told reporters at the White House that it was not a national security issue, nor was it a “personal” or family issue.
Short was scheduled to travel with Pence to New Hampshire, where the vice president was supposed to visit patients at a drug treatment center in Salem and deliver remarks on the opioid crisis.
The New York Times noted that multiple people familiar with what happened offered a partial explanation, explaining that it was related to the Granite Recovery Center, where he was scheduled to visit. There were no other details.
