Actor Mickey Rooney, 90, is known for being a Hollywood legend, but he's now taking a stand for senior citizens' rights.
The silver screen star petitioned for, and was granted, a temporary restraining order on Tuesday against his stepson, Christopher Aber, 52, and Aber's wife, Christina.
According to the petition, Aber "threatens, intimidates, bullies and harasses Mickey … [who] is effectively a prisoner in his own home," reports The Hollywood Reporter. The papers claim that Aber, the son of Rooney's eighth wife, January, "blocked Mickey's access to his mail and will not provide Mickey with any information about his finances other than to tell him that Mickey is broke." Aber is also being accused of withholding Rooney's "medications … and daily necessities, including food."
The temporary restraining order awarded to Rooney by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Reva Goetz stipulates that the Abers are to stay at least 100 yards from the former Oscar nominee's home until February 24, when a hearing concerning the matter is scheduled.
Rooney issued a statement saying, "All I want to do is live a peaceful life, to regain my life and be happy. I pray to God each day to protect us, help us endure, and guide those other senior citizens who are also suffering." —KIMBERLY STEELE
