The Rolling Stones are postponing their upcoming North American tour due to lead singer Mick Jagger‘s health, the band announced Saturday. The 17 remaining shows of the “No Filter” spring tour between April and July will be rescheduled.
“Mick has been advised by doctors that he cannot go on tour at this time, as he needs medical treatment,” the band tweeted Saturday. “The doctors have advised Mick that he is expected to make a complete recovery so that he can get back on stage as soon as possible.”
The rock icon will reportedly undergo a heart valve surgery Friday in New York.
Jagger, 75, apologized to fans. “I’m so sorry to all our fans in America & Canada with tickets,” he tweeted Saturday. “I really hate letting you down like this. I’m devastated for having to postpone the tour but I will be working very hard to be back on stage as soon as I can. Once again, huge apologies to everyone.”
The band recommended that fans hold on to their tickets as they will still be valid for rescheduled dates, which have not yet been announced.
“We’ll miss you over the next few weeks, but we’re looking forward to seeing you all again very soon. Here’s to Mick ~ thanks for your supportive messages it means so much to us,” Ronnie Wood tweeted following the postponement.
Keith Richards added, “A big disappointment for everyone but things need to be taken care of and we will see you soon. Mick, we are always there for you!”
The band, which got its start more than five decades ago, performed the first two legs of its “No Filter” tour in Europe during fall 2017 and spring 2018.

Jagger is not the first 1960s-era music icon with health problems.
In February, rock guitarist Peter Frampton announced that he had a degenerative muscle disease that could slow his fingers and his ability to move around. He will be staging a farewell tour.
