The upcoming Lionsgate biopic about Michael Jackson will star the late singer’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, in the leading role. Director Antoine Fuqua says that the resemblance between the two relatives is “uncanny.”

Jaafar is the 27-year-old son of Michael Jackson’s brother, Jermaine Jackson. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Fuqua praised Jaafar’s performance in the film Michael.

“It’s uncanny how much he’s like Michael,” Fuqua said. “Sounds like him, dances like him, sings. It’s really uncanny. Graham King, who is a fantastic producer, found him and introduced him to me, and I was blown away.”

Michael is currently on hold as the Hollywood writers’ and actors’ strike continues. Fuqua has suggested that the biopic will tell the singer’s story “as we know it” and will shine a light on his controversial legacy.

Fuqua explained that the goal of the film is “just to tell the facts as we know it, about the artist, about the man, about the human being. You know, the good, bad, and the ugly.”
