Michael Douglas joked about his on-screen romance with Behind the Candelabra co-star Matt Damon during his acceptance speech for Oustanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or TV Movie, teasing, “So, do you want the bottom or the top?”

Douglas and Damon co-started as lovers in the Liberace biopic directed by Steven Soderbergh, and both were nominated in the category. Accepting the award, Douglas said that he shared the Emmy with Damon.

“Obviously there’s one nominee in particular that I have to really thank. This was a two hander, and Matt,” Douglas began before being cut off by laughter in the crowd.

“– you’re only as good as your other hand… You were magnificent. And the only reason I’m standing here is because of you, so you really deserve half of this. So, do you want the bottom or the top,” Douglas continued, inciting bigger laughter from the audience, and causing Damon to blush.

“The top? I figured that,” Douglas joked before thanking the rest of the cast and crew of Behind the Candelabra.

Douglas also took the time to thank his family, including his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones. Though the two announced they were taking some time apart in August, Douglas, who attended the award show alone, thanked his wife for her support and spoke positively about their marriage on the red carpet.

“Everybody is fine. Nothing really more to say. We were just taking a little break. We’re talking. I think everything will be fine and I’m very hopeful,” Douglas told Nancy O’Dell of Entertainment Tonight.
