Metallica opened the doors of their rehearsal session in Baltimore to a few hundred fans, as well as the entire Internet, as they recorded the jam on Facebook Live.
The metal band took the stage on Tuesday for their last rehearsal before kicking off the North American leg of their WorldWired tour on Wednesday. As a bonus, they decided to post the entire thing on Facebook and stream it live. “This is the best,” a fan said of the event. “Once-in-a-lifetime situation for a Metallica fan.”
The upcoming summer stadium tour is the first they’ve done since 2003. The tour is to promote their newest album, Hardwired… To Self-Destruct, their first in eight years. Since the album came out in Nov. 2016, the band has been touring over Asia and South America, and will work their way across North America and into Europe this year. The album is reportedly reminiscent of the band’s early work around 30 years ago.
“It’s great to be back here. The memory is a little foggy but, Hammerjacks [concert hall in Baltimore] 30 years ago,” said Lars Ulrich told ABC News 2, the band’s drummer and founding member. “It’s just amazing that people still care. We’re like little kids still just running around going, ‘Oh my God.’ Running around with a rock-and-roll band in your early 50s is kind of pretty cool, pretty cool.”
The 25-date North American leg of their tour kicks off today, May 10, at Baltimore’s M&T Stadium, and will continue across the continent, ending Aug. 16 in Edmonton. Avenged Sevenfold and Volbeat will open for most of the concerts, with Gojira joining in August.
