On December 7, the “Auction of Nothing” In support of (RED)’s Fight To End AIDS was co-hosted by Lake Bell and Laura Brown and attended by many stars in Los Angeles.

Sarah Silverman, Melissa McCarthy, Clea Duvall, Lindsay Sloane and Reggie Watts were all among the celebrities at the event.

The brand (RED) aims to involve the private sector in creating awareness and generating funds to combat HIV/AIDS in eight African nations, specifically Eswatini, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia.

AIDS is a chronic disease of the immune system caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). HIV weakens the immune system and makes it difficult for the body to fight off infections and diseases. The virus can be transmitted through contact with infected blood, semen or vaginal fluids.

While there is no cure for HIV/AIDS, medication can effectively manage the infection and prevent the progression of the disease. Some individuals may experience flu-like symptoms shortly after they contract HIV, while others may remain asymptomatic for years if they receive proper treatment. Over time, the virus replicates and destroys immune cells, which leads to symptoms such as fever, fatigue and swollen lymph nodes.

Without treatment, HIV typically progresses to AIDS within 8 to 10 years. However, with appropriate medical care, the majority of people living with HIV in the United States can avoid developing AIDS.
