Before leaving the White House last month, former First Lady Melania Trump did not write her own “thank you” notes to the White House residence staff.

The 80 staff members who received typed written notes, assumed that Melania did not write them herself but she tasked a lower-level East Wing staffer to write them “in her voice” with her signing her name.

It is customary for first ladies and presidents to leave notes of gratitude to household staff members who have worked for the first family every day for the past four years. The notes usually include personal anecdotes showing that they got to know the staffer well.

White House cooks, butlers, housekeepers, ushers and maintenance staff usually do not turn over with each administration and work at the White House for over a decade.

Melania exited the White House with the lowest favorability rating of any first lady in modern history.
