Mary Steenburgen is joining the cast of Orange is the New Black as the mother of corrections officer George “Pornstache” Mendez.

Mary Steenburgen 'Orange' Role Revealed

Steenburgen’s role in the hit Netflix series was announced by TVLine. In season 2 of Orange is the New Black, Pornstache (Pablo Schreiber) was fired from his job at Litchfield after Daya (Dascha Polanco) reaffirmed that they’d had sex and lied to say that she was carrying his child – not Bennett’s (Matt McGorry). Since a CO having sex with a prisoner legally counts as rape, Mendez will likely be spending a lot of time at home with Steenburgen as his mom as he awaits his trial.

Being Pornstache’s mom is sure to not be an easy task, but Steenburgen has some practice playing mother to difficult adult children. In 2008 film Step Brothers, she played mother to a pair of man-children played by Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly.

Steenburgen announced that she would appear in the third season of Orange is the New Black on Twitter, writing, “Very excited to go to my first wardrobe fitting of OITNB! Will I be in orange or black?:)”

Steenburgen has recently had recurring guest-starring roles on 30 Rock, Wilfred and Justified. On the big screen, in addition to Step Brothers, she’s known for her Academy Award-winning turn in Melvin and Howard, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape and The Help, among a number of other features.
