Steven Yeun was added to the expanding cast of Bong Joon-Ho’s next film, which will be the follow-up to his acclaimed 2019 film Parasite. The film is an adaptation of the science fiction novel Mickey7 by Edward Ashton and stars Robert Pattinson in the titular lead role.

The novel features an “Expendable” employee named Mickey7 on a mission to colonize an icy planet, who must hide away his clone Mickey8 who is created after he briefly goes missing and is presumed dead. A tagline for the book, which was first published this year by St. Martin Press, is “Dying isn’t any fun… but at least it’s a living.”

The themes and genre at play in the novel definitely seem like they would appeal to the director. His science fiction action film Snowpiercer was very well received and spawned a successful series adaptation, and Parasite dealt with overt themes of wealth inequality.

Other cast members that have joined the film so far include Mark Ruffalo, Naomi Ackie and Toni Collette, and marks the second collaboration between Bong’s production company and Brad Pitt’s entertainment company Plan B after Okja in 2017.

Yeun first broke out with his role as Glenn Rhee in The Walking Dead and has also given acclaimed film performances in projects such as Minari and Burning. He will next appear in the Jordan Peele science fiction horror film Nope which premieres this July.

The untitled Mickey7 adaptation is still in the pre-production process.
