Marvel Star Jonathan Majors Avoids Prison Sentence For Assaulting Ex-Girlfriend
Former Marvel star Jonathan Majors was sentenced to one year of counseling for assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari.
In March 2023, Jabbari claimed Majors attacked her in a taxi, leaving her injured. Majors also allegedly twisted Jabbari’s arm, strangled her and squeezed her finger until it fractured. Police arrested Majors on charges of strangulation and harassment. After news of the assault came to light, two other women accused Majors of assault.
Majors previously claimed the incident occurred after Jabbari became jealous after seeing a text from another woman on his phone, saying he was trying to defend himself against Jabbari, who became violent.
In December 2023, a jury found Majors guilty of one count of reckless assault and harassment. Hours after the conviction, Disney and Marvel, which are in charge of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), cut ties with Majors. Majors had played the character of Kang the Conqueror.
Judge Michael Gaffey sentenced the 34-year-old actor to conditional discharge, noting that Majors had no prior criminal record. Majors is required to complete a 52-week batterer’s intervention program and continue with therapy. He will be sent to jail if he violates the terms of his sentence, including contacting Jabbari.
Majors’ girlfriend, Meagan Good, supported the actor at the courthouse. Priya Chaudhry, Majors’ lawyer, said Majors is “committed to growing as a person.”
“He’s lost his whole career,” Chaudhry said. “This has been the most challenging year of his life.”
On Monday, Jabbari made a statement to the court. “[Majors’ is] not sorry. He has not accepted responsibility,” she said. “He will do this again, and he will hurt other women. He believes he is above the law.”
