In a candid social media post, Martha Stewart addressed the harsh criticism from her followers about the transformation of the living room in her Maine vacation home, Skylands.

“Yuck. It looks like a Marriott suite living room in 1987,” one fan wrote.

Stewart expressed her surprise at the brutal judgment displayed by many commenters. “I rarely read all the comments that come in after I post, but because I was so happy at the transformation of my Maine living room, I did go through many of the comments and was surprised at the harsh judgment so many displayed!!!” she said.

The celebrity chef explained that the room’s makeover was completed with the help of her “Maine helpers” in just three hours and emphasized that it was “not a ‘decorator’s’ professional installation” but rather “an attempt to change quickly and efficiently.” She acknowledged that a complete room renovation would typically take much more time and promised to add more details and enhancements in the future, along with “color, plants, mirrors, a new rug or two and other art and objects.”

The updated living space features a collection of 11 large drawings of various birds around a brick fireplace, complemented by cream-colored chairs and couches with black detailing. Stewart emphasized the beauty of the “chromo lithographs by Carroll Tyson known as the ‘6 Audubon of Maine'” that adorn the walls.

Skylands, Stewart’s vacation home located in Seal Harbor, Maine, was originally built in 1925 for auto executive Edsel Ford and was purchased by the lifestyle mogul in 1997. The sprawling estate boasts 12 bedrooms and a pink granite driveway, and Stewart has worked to preserve the classic charm of the property, telling Architectural Digest in 2017 that she views herself as the “caretaker of an American treasure.” “I didn’t have to buy a plate,” she said, and added, “Although I’ve certainly added my fair share.”

Stewart has long been criticized for her stylistic choices, but that has not stopped her from living her best life.
