Martha Stewart is dismissing critics who think she should “dress her age.”
During a red carpet appearance at the Fashion Group International’s Night of Stars Gala, Stewart, 82, said she has no plans to change her style when asked about the subject.
“Dressing for whose age?” Stewart told reporters on the red carpet. “I don’t think about age. I think people are more and more [fabulous] than they’ve ever been in their senior years, and I applaud every one of them.”
Stewart believes her sense of fashion hasn’t changed.
“I’ve dressed the same since I was 17. If you look at my pictures on my Instagram, I look pretty much the same,” she added.
Stewart helped present a Lifetime Achievement award for her longtime friend, designer Dennis Basso.
She sported a sparkling white suit for the occasion.
Stewart has become a bit of a sex symbol in recent times. She made history in May as the oldest cover model ever for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue.
She wants old people to take age out of the equation for self-expression.
“Age is not the determining factor in terms of friendship or in terms of success. But what people do, how people think, how people act, that’s what’s important and not your age,” Stewart told Sports Illustrated.
Stewart reported that she got many new suitors after her SI spread was published.
