Mariah Carey Claims Nicki Minaj Said She Would 'Shoot' Her After 'American Idol' Dispute
Despite Ryan Seacrest's efforts to downplay it, the feud between Mariah Carey, 42, and Nicki Minaj, 29, that was caught on a taping of the Simon Cowell-created American Idol, in which Minaj said she was not going to be "putting up with her f–king highness over there" — meaning Carey — was more than a passing tiff. And when the cameras stopped rolling, Minaj reportedly went on to say some directly threatening things.
Following the argument, in which Carey is also speaking inaudibly, Carey communicated to her friend Barbara Walters, who revealed a couple of lines that the camera apparently didn't catch on today's The View. "If I had a gun, I would shoot the b–ch," Minaj reportedly said after she left the table, according to what Carey told Walters.
Minaj then allegedly told Carey at a meeting with the American Idol producers and judges, who also include fellow newcomer Keith Urban and mainstay Randy Jackson, "I love you but we might fight again," to which Carey simply responded, "No, we will not," and later told Walters that she "doesn't feel comfortable emotionally."
Minaj took to Twitter to defend herself. “Hey yAll. Lets just say nicki said smthn about a gun. ppl will believe it cuz she’s a black rapper. Lmao. I’ll then hit up Barbara n milk it," she tweeted.
Country crooner Urban, husband to The Paperboy actress Nicole Kidman, who was also caught on camera raising his hands in the air and later trying to calm Minaj down, joked about the matter on Wednesday. "I was the UN," Urban said, reports ABC News. Kidman called him "Switzerland."
But Urban's not letting the dispute get him down or discourage his excitement about being on American Idol. "I love it, I got to say,” Urban said. “I love working with passionate people. I love artists. Everyone just sort of expressing themselves. It’s a very alive and very invigorating work environment. A lot of passion."
Carey, American Idol's first choice, is reportedly earning a whopping $18 million per season to be a judge on the hit Fox reality competition — three million less than previous Idol sweetheart Jennifer Lopez.
If it's "passion" he's after, looks like Urban is in luck.
