Margot Robbie Lands Harley Quinn Role In 'Suicide Squad' – Report
Margot Robbie might soon be announced as the actress tapped to play Harley Quinn in DC Comics' Suicide Squad film.
Margot Robbie Joins Suicide Squad
Robbie, 24, was rumored to be close to signing a deal for the Suicide Squad film a few weeks ago. Now, the Australian actress has reportedly officially signed on for the part of Harley Quinn, according to Collider.
The Harley Quinn character was first introduced in Batman: The Animated Series. She was initially merely meant to be the Joker’s girlfriend and crafty henchwoman. Her backstory includes a career as a psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum, where she met the Joker – who manipulated her into a romance.
Since Harley Quinn’s introduction into the DC universe, the anti-hero character has built up a following of her own. Suicide Squad will be the character’s debut on the big screen.
Robbie is best known for playing opposite Leonardo DiCaprio’s Jordan Belfort in Wolf of Wall Street. She’ll soon be seen in upcoming films Focus, Tarzan, Z for Zachariah, and The Taliban Shuffle.
Last week it was reported that Oscar winner Jared Leto was likely to land the part of the Joker in Suicide Squad by The Hollywood Reporter. "I've sworn to keep my mouth shut but I think that very shortly there will be something to talk about, that's for sure,” the actor teased in an interview with THR earlier this month.
David Ayer has signed on to direct the Suicide Squad movie. In addition to Robbie and Leto, Tom Hardy, Will Smith and Jesse Eisenberg are all rumored to be circling parts in the superhero flick.
