Mandy Moore has landed a major recurring guest role on Fox’s new hour-long drama Red Band Society.
Moore, known for both her singing and acting skills, will play Ocean Park Hospital’s chief of staff Erin Grace. Erin, incidentally, also happens to be the ex fiancé of Dr. McAndrews (Dave Annable).
"We're branching out to tell a soap on top of the patients with the hospital staff and we're adding new people," executive producer Rina Mimoun told The Hollywood Reporter. "We focus on patients, but we're building out the adult storylines so we're following their stories as well."
Red Band Society currently stars Annable and Octavia Spencer as a sharp-tongued nurse with a soft heart. Both of the workers at Ocean Park Hospital treat a group of sick teenagers that call the hospital their home. The show focuses on the unlikley friendships between the ailing patients, who realize they need each other in order to get through the difficulties of growing up in a hospital.
Producers hope that by building upon the storylines of the series' adult characters, it'll add texture to the show – and hopefully give it the best chance to survive the crowded fall season of new series.
Moore's previous TV work includes a recurring arc on ABC's Grey's Anatomy, Entourage and CBS pilots Good Session and Advocates, neither of which were ordered for seasons. On the big screen, Moore has starred in Princess Diaries, A Walk to Remember, License to Wed, Because I Said So and Tangled.
