Celebrity couple Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard shined at the screening of Crimes of the Future during the 75th annual Cannes film festival hosted at the Palais des Festivals by providing the perfect example of how to execute the standard Hollywood black tie dress code.

Gyllenhaal’s look was entirely unembellished and was instead characterized by her dress’ strong geometric silhouette.

The ensemble features a dramatic low V-neck and prominent shoulder pads. Clean and tailored lines were another central element of the dress, an effect caused by the way the fabric gathers and falls.

Her evening gown was from Lanvin’s Fall/Winter 2022 collection by the brand’s designer and creative director Bruno Sialleli.

Gyllenhaal matched with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo actress, Noomi Rapace, who wore the same piece in shocking pink.

However, Gyllenhaal’s outfit was not completely devoid of sparkle. Like the other celebrities in attendance that night, her jewels were from Chopard. She opted for a pair of delicate ear cuffs in the shape of flowers that hugged her earlobes.

To top off her look, the actress sported a simple yet striking red lip with matching nails— a classic combination that can do no wrong, especially on the red carpet.

Appearing alongside Gyllenhaal was her husband and fellow actor Peter Sarsgaard, who wore a crisp black suit, white dress shirt, and black tie combination.

His look and matching color palette worked to provide a sense of coherence to the couple’s joint appearance at the film’s screening
