Madonna‘s plan to build a $15 million girl’s school in Lilongwe, Malawi has been halted by villagers who refuse to move. The Malawian government has told the villagers that they must move since they were only permitted to live there until a developmer for the plot was identified. Madonna paid the villagers more than 16 million kwacha (roughly $115,000) as compensation, but villagers complain that it equals just $1,500 per person and is not enough for land families have been living on for generations. –NATASHA ALLOWAY
