Madonna, 53, may have been the quintessential wild child, but that doesn't mean she approves of rebellious behavior from her 15-year-old daughter, Lourdes Leon, who was recently photographed smoking a cigarette while out and about in New York.

Madonna, a former smoker herself, addressed the incident and the fact that her parenting skills had been called into question when the photographs went viral online. "[I] wasn't very happy," she said about Lourdes' smoking on an episode of Rock Center with Brian Williams that airs tonight on NBC. "Honestly, I don't think I'm as tough as I should be. I think I need to be maybe tougher. It's hard — every day is a negotiation. But cigarette smoking I'm not very fond of, for anyone. I don't approve of anyone smoking cigarettes, most of all my daughter."

Madonna, mother of four, recently smoked a cigarette in the music video for her new song "Girls Gone Wild," off her MDNA album. Material Girl Madonna, whose boyfriend Brahim Zaibat, 24, is only nine years older than her eldest daughter, doesn't see that as the same thing, however. "I don't smoke," she said. "That's just an accessory …. There's a difference." Besides, it's all about timing. "She smoked that cigarette before I did that video," Madonna added. "She didn't get that from me."
