Actor Luke Wilson and golfer Bill Haas were involved in a fatal car accident on Feb. 13, and Wilson displayed some heroics.

LUKE WILSON PULLED WOMAN OUT OF FLIPPED CAR IN FEB. 13 ACCIDENT

The actor and athlete were in two of the three cars involved in the crash. Haas was in the Ferrari that struck a BMW and clipped Wilson’s Toyota SUV. The driver of the Ferrari was killed and the woman driving the BMW was pinned when her car flipped over. Reports now say that Wilson jumped out of his car to free the woman, 50.

“Luke Wilson was the hero,” said witness Sean Herigs, who assisted the actor in the rescue attempt. “His car was also clipped, but he just pulled over and jumped out to help immediately. He was leading the charge.” Herigs told the New York Daily News that he and Wilson feared that the BMW would catch flame, and that the actor moved immediately.

“She was screaming for help, crying,” said Herigs of the trapped woman. “I leaned in through the passenger window to help as she pushed herself up and got her leg out. He helped her out the back of the car. Luke and myself, we carried her over to the curb and got her situated.”

The woman was taken to the hospital for her injuries. Golfer Haas, 35, was also injured in the wreck and had to withdraw from his upcoming Genesis Open, organized by the PGA. He was driving with family friend and trainer Mark Gibello, 71, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are currently investigating the crash to determine if speed played a factor. Herigs says that the driver of the Ferarri, Gibello, accelerated just before the accident. “He just jumps on it, he floors it,” said Herigs. “It looked like maybe he was racing, to show his buddy what the car could do.”

Wilson, 46, was not injured in the crash.
