Mendeecees Harris, who stars in Love & Hip Hop and is married to co-star Yandy Smith, was sentenced to serve time in prison for drug trafficking charges.
Harris, 37, was sentenced last Tuesday to 97 months, or eight years, in prison after he plead guilty for conspiracy to distribute heroin and cocaine. He is set to turn himself after the New Year and will serve his time in an undisclosed prison in New York. Evidence found that Harris was part of the drug trafficking scheme between 2005 and 2012. He had to pay $171,000 which he made while starring in Love & Hip Hop and forfeit his brand new Audi R8.
His wife, Yandy, took to Instagram to show her support for her husband during the difficult time saying, “Thank you for your continued support. You have no idea how much your love and encouragement means,” Yandy wrote to over two million followers on Instagram. “We finally have closure and are prepared and ready for all the future holds. God and love always prevails. Thank you God for family and love. (I consider some of you I never met family) #resolved #prayedup #blessed.”
Harris himself took to his Instagram page to let young men know of his mistakes and that they should not go down the path. “Young men let my life be an example to you now before it’s too late. Better who you are now in your children’s lives and in society so you can change the path of your fate,” the father of four wrote in the post. “Lack of opportunities, a fatherless home, the unforgiven neighborhood and circumstances you grew up in can no longer be your excuse. Trust me I tried. And it doesn’t make the pain your family feels any different.”
