Brooke McCarter, best known for his role in 1980’s cult horror hit The Lost Boys, has died aged 52 in Tampa, Fla., his family have announced.
McCarter’s family said they were “heartbroken” at his death in a statement shared on Facebook and revealed the cause of death as “genetic liver condition alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency (AAT)”.
“Brooke was our loving son, brother, father, uncle, cousin, nephew and friend,” the statement read. “Funeral arrangements are still being finalized. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
McCarter played vampire Paul, a member of Kiefer Sutherland‘s wayward gang, in the hit horror comedy. He took a hiatus from acting in the 90’s and focused on music, becoming a drummer and music programmer.
He scored independent feature films such as Fast Getaway and documentaries such as Leaves of Green, on which he also served as director.
