Lorde has apologized to her recent comment that hanging out with Taylor Swift is similar to going out with a friend with an autoimmune disease.

LORDE APOLOGIZES FOR INSENSITIVE AUTOIMMUNE ANALOGY

In an interview with The Guardian, the Kiwi singer made the analogy that being friends with Swift is like “have a friend with very specific allergies.” “There are certain places you can’t go together certain things you can’t do,” she explained. “There are these different sets of considerations within the friendship. It’s like having a friend with an autoimmune disease.”

Her comment drew backlash from many claiming the analogy was inappropriate. “I wonder how @selenagomez feels about this. What an incredibly ignorant analogy to make @lorde,” one person wrote on Twitter. She was referring to Selena Gomez‘s struggle with Lupus. “Autoimmune diseases are chronic, they’re debilitating, they’re painful, they can put you in a coma, and they end lives too soon,” the user added.

Lorde responded to the user directly, apologizing for her words. “Didn’t mention Taylor, but regardless, I f–ked up & that was really insensitive. I’m sorry,” she said.

The user who initially called the singer out responded again, thanking her for apologizing, and calling her the “queen of apologies.”
