Lili Reinhart Apologizes For ‘Tone Deaf’ Topless Photo In Support Of Breonna Taylor
Lili Reinhart took to Twitter to apologize for a since-deleted topless Instagram post that she used to “demand justice” for Breonna Taylor. Many critics claimed that Reinhart’s post was “tone deaf.”
Reinhart captioned the photo, “Now that my sideboob has gotten your attention, Breonna Taylor’s murderers have not been arrested. Demand justice.” Taylor is a black woman and EMT who was killed in March when officer fatally shot her in her home in Louisville, Kentucky during a no-knock warrant search on drug charges.
After receiving backlash, Reinhart tweeted, “I’ve tried very hard to be honest on my IGTV lives that I’m still learning and trying to be better. But I understand that my caption came off as tone deaf. I truly had good intentions and did not think it through that it could come off as insensitive.”
She then added, “I’ve always tried to use my platform for good. And speak up about things that are important to me. I also can admit when I make a mistake and I made a mistake with my caption. It was never my intent to insult anyone and I’m truly sorry to those that were offended.”
Reinhart has been active on social media in showing her support of the Black Lives Matter movement and for the LGBTQ+ community. On June 8, she came out as bi-sexual on her Instagram story. She wrote, “Although I’ve never announced it publicly before, I am a proud bisexual woman.” She then gave details for the protests and invited her fans to follow her lead, “And I will be joining this protest today. Come join.”
On June 1, she stated on Twitter, “I want to say that I am ashamed of the racism that exists in this country. We are taught to look at our police officers as helpful and friendly when we learn about “leaders” in elementary school. Our ‘leaders’ have failed us today.”
