The 62nd Annual Grammys were filled with star-studded performances, but no star shined brighter than Lil Nas X and his impressive entourage of celebrities that sang “Old Town Road” alongside the Grammy winning artist.

Lil Nas X started his award-winning song as the lone cowboy. After his first verse, he was immediately joined by the K-Pop group BTS, where they began singing their own rendition to the song, titled “Seoul Town Road.” EDM star Diplo as well as Mason Ramsey, who became one of the youngest ever to perform at the Grammys. Even Nas was able to perform the song on stage.

In the song’s last verse, Lil Nas X was accompanied by Billy Ray Cyrus. Cyrus was featured on Lil Nas X’s first remix, which was rerecorded and eventually found itself number one on the Billboard Hot 100. For the duo of X and Cyrus, this not their first rodeo together. Their their last performance was at the BET award ceremony in mid-July.

In addition to a fantastic performance, Lil Nas X was nominated for a total of four Grammys. Lil Nas X ended up winning two Grammys, which are the Best Rap Video award, and the Best Pop Duo award.

In February, Lil Nas X revealed his sexuality on the last day of Pride Month. Many of his fans believed that Lil Nas X could’ve received backlash from this instance, but X’s humorous personality and his 3.7 million Twitter followers made sure that was never going to be the case.

In an interview months earlier, Music Producer Irv ‘Gotti’ Lorenzo spoke on Lil Nax X and his status as an LGBTQ+ rapper. “As a whole, I don’t think no one cares. If we [were] in 1995, we might have a problem,” stated Lorenzo. Lorenzo pointed out that other LGBTQ artists such as Frank Ocean, have not been attacked or discriminated against due to their sexual preferences.
