Liam Payne, a former singer in the boy band One Direction, had his driver’s license revoked for six months after he was caught speeding 43 mph in a 30 mph zone.

Court documents revealed that the incident occurred on February 24. Payne’s Ford Ranger was spotted by an automatic camera in West London.

On October 9, his case was heard at Lavender Hill Magistrates. He has been fined £293 ($358) and has been stripped of his license due to repeat offenses.

Payne, 30, admitted, “I did not realize the speed limit and apologized for speeding.” He agreed to pay the fine imposed within the allotted 14 days.

Last month, while on a trip to Lake Como in Italy, Payne was hospitalized after he refused to cancel a South American tour due to an infection.

Accompanied by his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, he was rushed to the hospital with “agonizing” kidney pain. The trip was in honor of the couple’s one-year anniversary.

Payne was seen for the first time since his hospitalization earlier this month at Paris Fashion Week.

Payne’s career began in 2008 when he auditioned for the fifth season of The X Factor at 14 years old. He moved past the first round but was eventually cut. He was encouraged by judge Simon Cowell to “come back in two years.”

He returned in 2010 for the seventh season and was considered the second favorite to win the competition after his solo audition, which earned him a standing ovation from Cowell. Though he was eventually cut, at the suggestion of guest judge Nicole Scherzinger, Payne formed the five-piece boy band with Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Harry Styles.

When Malik departed the band to pursue solo projects, Payne stepped up to fill his role and was credited as co-writer for over half of the songs on the band’s third and fourth albums.

As of May 2022, One Direction has sold over 70 million records worldwide.
