Lena Dunham announced that she had “deleted Twitter” during a red carpet interview with Ryan Seacrest at Sunday night’s Golden Globe Awards, causing fans to panic.
Dunham, who was nominated for Best Actress in a TV Comedy for her work in HBO’s Girls, stopped by E!’s red carpet special to catch up with Seacrest and show off her date, Girls co-star Andrew Rannells. During the interview, Dunham announced that she wouldn’t be checking Twitter during the awards, saying, “I deleted Twitter because I’m trying to create a safer space for myself emotionally.”
Dunham continued, saying that she was distancing herself from Twitter because of all the negative comments sent to her, including death threats. “There’s a lot of people I love on Twitter, but unfortunately you can’t read those without regarding deranged neo-cons telling you you should be buried under a pile of rocks,” Dunham said.
Rannells agreed with Dunham, saying of Twitter, “It’s a door to a whole lot of craziness.”
