Lauryn Hill Offers Explanation For Late Concert Start, Blames ‘Perfectionist Tendencies’
Lauryn Hill wrote her fans a note to offer an explanation for why she was late in kicking off her concert in Atlanta, Ga., Friday night.
Lauryn Hill Explains Tardiness
Hill angered many of her George-based fans over the weekend when she failed to start her Atlanta concert on time. Ticketholders were expecting a full two-hour show from the artist, but got less than half of that. Hill was meant to begin her concert at 8 p.m., but didn’t make it to the stage until 10:20 p.m, according to USA Today. Since the venue – Chastain Park Amphitheater – has a 11 p.m. show curfew, those who waited out Hill’s tardiness only heard 40-minutes worth of music.
In an effort to explain her tardiness, Hill took to Facebook.
“I don’t show up late to shows because I don’t care. And I have nothing but Love and respect for my fans,” Hill wrote. “The challenge is aligning my energy with the time, taking something that isn’t easily classified or contained, and trying to make it available for others. I don’t have an on/off switch. I am at my best when I am open, rested, sensitive and liberated to express myself as truthfully as possible.”
“Because I care so deeply about the artistic process, I scrutinize, have perfectionist tendencies, and want space made for spontaneity, which is not an easy process, with the many moving parts on the road,” Hill added. “Some days we are more successful than others re time. However, the vitality that is infused into the performances is always appreciated by the audiences, who may not know exactly what it took to accomplish.
Hill went on to express her regret for being unable to give her Atlanta fans a full show, and stated that there were plans in motion to make it up to them that will be announced in the near future.
